Now, for the cleaning tip we know you’re all waiting for…

It’s time to deep clean your HVAC vents and change those dusty filters!

As temperatures drop and heating systems begin running, it's crucial to ensure that your HVAC system is clean and efficient. Here's a step-by-step guide to deep cleaning your system and improving your home's air quality:

  1. Turn Off the HVAC System
Before starting, switch off your heating and cooling system to avoid circulating dust while cleaning.

  2. Vacuum the Air Vents
Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to thoroughly clean the air vents. Pay close attention to the edges and grilles, which often accumulate dust and debris. If your vents are particularly dirty, you may want to remove them for a more detailed clean.

  3. Wipe Down the Vent Covers
After vacuuming, use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down the vent covers. If they're especially grimy, soak them in warm, soapy water for 15-20 minutes, scrub with a soft brush, and then dry them completely before reinstalling.

  4. Clean or Replace HVAC Filters
Fall is a perfect time to check your HVAC filters. If they’re clogged with dust or pet hair, replace them to ensure clean air flows throughout your home. Some filters are washable, so if that's the case, follow the manufacturer's instructions to clean and reinstall them.

  5. Clean Around the HVAC Unit
Don’t forget to vacuum around your actual HVAC unit, whether it's in a closet, basement, or outside. Remove any accumulated dust or debris that could hinder its performance.

  6. Consider a Professional Duct Cleaning
If it's been a while since you had your air ducts professionally cleaned, fall is a great time to do it. A professional service will remove dust, allergens, and mold that might have settled in your ducts over the year, significantly improving your indoor air quality.

Bonus Tip: Consider adding a fall-scented essential oil, like cinnamon or clove, to a diffuser near your HVAC intake. It’ll circulate the scent throughout your home, adding a cozy, seasonal feel to the fresh, clean air.
